Dream Valley Farm

A family raising sable and nubian goats

Who are we?

We are John, Kelly, Scott, Dustin and Montana Montgomery.  We live in West Winfield, NY in a historic farm house.

My husband and I were married in 1991.  After serving our  20 year term in the Navy we chose to “retire”  in upstate NY.  What started out as a hobby farm led to a 4-H project in sable saanen dairy goats for our  son, Montana.  We enjoyed this endeaver as a family unit so much that my husband and I chose to raise and show the nubian dairy goat.

Our son Montana’s herd of Sable dairy goats go under the herd name Montana’s Mtn. View while my herd of dairy goats fall under the name Dream Valley Farm or DVF.

We have decided to add other dairy breeds to our herd in order to get to know the other breeds better.  In 2010 we added an Alpine dairy goat and find their milk very sweet.  Too sweet for the boys so we sold her to a wonderful young lady down the road.  In 2012 I would like to add a lamancha doe.  They will also fall under my herd name of DVF (which stands for Dream Valley Farm)  In the fall of 2010 we decided to add a small flock of meat goats as well.

With today’s economy being what it is, and after much deliberation and research, we have chosen to persue a “self-sufficient”  life style.   This is an on going learning experience and we will post our progress from time to time.  We get many of our ideas from Mother Earth News and Hobby Farms magazine.  A documentary called Food, Inc. has drastically changed the way we purchase our food and further instilled in us a desire to become self sufficient.  If you haven’t seen it yet, you  should rent it right away.
