Goat Contest

How can someone win a milking doe?

Nominate yourself or someone else to win a young freshened doe of our choice by providing us with a short essay of why a dairy goat would be a blessing to them or yourself.  This contest is for those who would use and appreciate the use of a dairy goat.

What will the winner receive?

The winner will receive a milking doe, three years of age or less that is trained to the milk stand,  with proof of a recent vet check and book on caring for goats.   Along with this doe you will receive free breedings to the buck of our choice each year to keep this young lady in milking condition.  You also will have our support via email or phone for any questions or concerns.  This doe will be returned to you each year until you no longer wish to keep her.

We are willing to deliver the doe up to 2 hours away from our zip code 13491.  Contestants  further away than that will have to accept the responsibility of all transportation requirements of above contract.

Requirements:

The nominee should be 21 years of age or older (parents may write on behalf of their children).

The nominee should have proper land and shelter for a dairy goat.  Don’t panic…this really isn’t as much as you may think!  A general knowledge and understanding of goat care will be considered a bonus.

You will have to sign a contract and have it notarized by our notary at our expense.    Part of the contract will also require you to bring this doe back each year for breeding to the buck of our choice.  We require all but one kid to be returned to our farm so we can keep this blessing going in the future.  A doeling will be picked for you if available, unless you request a buck.  You may raise the kid for food, sell it  for additional cash, or pass an additional blessing to someone else you know.  NOTICE:  ALL BUCKLINGS WILL BE CASTRATED BEFORE LEAVING THIS FARM

Your blessing nanny may return to your farm after breeding is confirmed.  You must return her to our farm for kidding  no less than one month prior to her delivery date so that we may provide health care to the newborn kids including disbudding, castration and vaccinations.  While she is with us your doe will be tested for CAE and we will send her and your kid home with a health check from our vet and all vaccinations required by law.  Your  kid will be disbudded and bucks castrated.

THE WINNER WILL BE CHOSEN MAY 1, 2013.  WE HOPE TO DO THIS EACH YEAR OUR FARM IS IN EXSISTENCE AND PASS ON “THE BLESSING OF THE NANNIES”.

Please include one paragraph on how this nanny would be a blessing to you (ie milk, show experience, a child with a milk allergy, low income and milk needed, or simply a companion to a child who could use a friend), your name, address, phone number and email address so we can reach you if you are selected.

We currently have only sables and cross bred does (sable/nubian or snubian) available for this contest.  The blessing nanny is not chosen until after kidding has occurred.  We do not know which doe will be chosen ahead of time.  If you have a favorite from our sable does page, please let us know and we will consider her for you.  If you will be showing the doe often, please give us that information as well.  We want you to win as much as we want to win!   Let’s face it.  Winning is fun!

I would be so grateful to be a winner of your dairy goat. I am a animal love and recently bought a weathered Lamancha goat. Before Buddy(our goat) i was not very educated on goats. We have a small farm for our family to provide us with organic food products since becoming more aware of the animal abuse, growth hormones, and other products that are given to the animals that are breed and sold for the food market. The purchase of our goat came from me falling absolutely in love with him. He has such a playful and loving demeanor about him. After doing a lot of research about goats i decided i did want to get him a dairy goat companion in the spring so that he would have a friend and we would have milk. My 15 year old daughter and I would like to make soaps and cheeses among other products from the goat milk. I care for a few children during the day and have found that the animals we have been raising have proven to be such a great educational tool for my own children along with the children i care for. I hope i have said enough about what your dairy goat would bring to our home besides a wonderful friend and lovable pet we would enjoy and appreciate greatly.

My husband and I are working to become more self sufficient and are making our own soap, growing our food, etc. We would love to have a goat to milk as we’ve been told goat’s milk soap is the best! I’d also like to try my hand at cheesemaking. We have a fenced in pasture and shelter, we have a mini donkey and mini horse to mow the pasture and as pets for our grandchild (and therapy for me!!) I would love to be considered for a home for your sweet goat. Thank you, Tara
