Policies and Procedures
REGARDING HERD HEALTH
We work very hard to make sure our small herd has the best care possible. Late 2010 we became aware of a m0re natural way of feeding our goats. We first learned of this method from a book called “Natural Goat Care” and have adopted many of their methods. We hope to incorporate even more of their advice throughout 2012. We are also pursuing becoming “Animal Welfare Certified”.
REGARDING CAE
Even though preventative measures are taken we DO NOT GUARANTEE any animal to be CAE free. We feel as a show herd we do not have the right to guarantee CAE free status to a buyer of a kid. Our herd has no visible signs of any disease. We test for CAE and Johne’s each year. We actively remove any goat with clinical signs of any disease from our herd.
We encourage vet checks at the buyers expense. You are also encouraged to speak with out Veternarian if you have questions. We have been working with the same Vet since our beginning goat herd days in 2008.
REGARDING PURCHASE BY US
We do not purchase goats over the age of six months without first having a biosecurity screening done at our own expense.
REGARDING YOUR PURCHASE
If you are interested in a goat/kid a non refundable 50.00 deposit will hold them until an agreed upon day for pick up. Weaned kids cost more because it takes more time and effort to raise them. It also takes away from our milk availability. We encourage you to purchase a weaned kid. We recommend pickup time to be no early than 4 weeks of age.
REGARDING SHIPPING
We do not have any experience with this and feel it is better for you to pick your animal up here.
We do offer to deliver your goats at 3.50 per loaded mile. While this sounds expensive please remember the wear and tear on our vehicle, time off work and away from the farm, gas, lodging and other acquired expenses that may occur. Arrangements can be made to meet where we would all ready be (shows for instance) at no charge.
REGARDING BREEDING
We offer Buck services on farm only. We do not require your does to have a biosecurity screen to come to our farm for breeding. Goats showing signs of disease or illness of any kind will not be welcome. If you choose to “board” your goat on our farm for any length of time we will ask that you have proof of current CL, CAE and Johnnes free status. We have to protect our investment. Current boarding fees are 2.50 per day.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR GOATS REGISTRATION PAPERS SO WE CAN PROPERLY FILL OUT SERVICE MEMOS. SERVICE MEMOS ARE NOT GIVEN UNTIL PAYMENT IN FULL IS RECEIVED. CASH IS APPRECIATED. IF PAYMENT IS MADE BY CHECK WE REQUIRE A 10 DAY HOLDING PERIOD TO VERIFY FUNDS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.
